Mark begins his gospel with John the Baptist's announcement of the immanent arrival of God's Messiah. John calls for all people to prepare themselves for the one who will God's Spirit and his power to earth. When John gave his message, the people had been waiting for centuries, tired of waiting, and with low expectations of see in God at work. Nick asks whether we might be in a similar state, and challenges us to awake and see what God is doing.
