More than a tourist attraction, Ian Bunce Matt 2:1-12 & Eph 3:1-12, 8th Jan 2012 (2)
The morning service was led by Ian Bunce, who is Head of Mission for the Baptist Union of Great Britain.
Ian pointed out that we are all about communicating our faith to those around us. The Magi wanted to travel to where the action was taking place. 'Being there' was important to them – we do not to miss out on things or special events, like being at some of the Olympic events. The Magi wanted to know what was happening. Are we open to to be active and be there or do we expect it to come to us as we lounge in our seats. The Magi sought out and found. Can we find out by doing nothing.
In God becoming human we see the transformation of many many people. The story we read took place 2000 years ago but it is transforming lives right now, not just in the past.
We must be active in finding and worshipping Jesus. If we do nothing we will find nothing and receive nothing.
God revealed himself to foreigners, not only to the local people. Jesus was and is for all people not just us. Are we open to God doing something spectular around us and be part of it?
Where are we in our relationship to Jesus? Are we in the right place?
God loves us and created us. We are vitally important and to God. What is our response to the baby?
