Night Shelter

The Wokingham Night Shelter for the homeless started as a trial from January to February 2020. It provided shelter, a hot meal and a bed for the night, and a cooked breakfast in the morning. Anyone in the Wokingham area could be referred to the Night Shelter by agencies such as Citizens Advice, the Foodbank or Wokingham Borough Council. The scheme was co-ordinated by Pilgrim Hearts and involved a number of churches, with seven providing the physical space and others supporting through volunteers etc. Wokingham Baptist Church ran the Friday night shelter.

This winter (2020-2021) there will be no night shelter provision but anyone homeless in Wokingham will be offered temporary accommodation by the council. The Salvation Army is looking to provide hot meals seven days a week over the winter to support these individuals, and are looking for people to help. The hot meals will be served at lunch time. If you are interested in cooking, serving, or just finding out more, please contact Captain Jan Howlin at Wokingham Salvation Army, who will be able to share more information.
